Breckenridge has hosted the USA Pro Cycling Challenge (USAPC) since its inception in 2011. We believe that this international, high-profile event supports the long-term branding of Breckenridge as a summer biking destination, and rounds out our position as a year-round destination. The Council, along with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), carefully considers the costs and benefits as a whole, taking into account the overall business for summer and the total marketing mix. An event like the USAPC has a significant international component, not only with racers, but also with spectators and media coverage. We believe that good marketing and economic development plans have a mix of long-term branding and business building goals, as well as short-term business building initiatives.
